Ingredients:

  • 30 ml First Choice Olive Oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 10 ml ginger, freshly grated
  • 1 chilli, finely chopped
  • 500 g lean beef mince
  • 5ml ground cumin
  • 5 ml paprika
  • 5 ml turmeric
  • 5 ml ground cinnamon
  • 100 ml fresh coriander and parsley, chopped
  • 40 g raisins
  • 20 ml tomato paste
  • 40 ml chutney
  • 60 ml spring onion, chopped
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 8 sheets phyllo pastry
  • 100 g First Choice Butter, melted
  • salt to taste

Preparation method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C and linea baking tray with baking paper.
  2. Pour the First Choice Olive Oil in a sauce pan and heat on medium heat. Add the onion, garlic, ginger and chilli to the oil and sauté until the onion is soft.
  3. Add the meat and season.
  4. Stir fry until the meat is cooked then add all the spices, the coriander, parsley, raisins, tomato paste, chutney, chopped spring onion, egg yolk, and salt.
  5. Mix well to make the filling.
  6. Leave to cool completely.
  7. Brush sheets of phyllo pastry with melted First Choice Butter, place another sheet of phyllo pastry on top and brush with more melted butter.
  8. Cut into long strips of ±10 cm wide.
  9. Place a heaped teaspoon of filling on the bottom left corner of each strip and fold into a triangle. Now take it upwards to form another triangle. Repeat this process until you reach the end.
  10. Brush the finished samoosas with more butter before baking.
  11. Bake on the prepared baking tray for 15 minutes at 180°C (or until golden brown and crisp).
  12. Serve with tomato chilli jam and fresh coriander.
