Our electricity usage has reduced from 2014 to 2015 from 47.1 KWh per 1000 litre of product, to 45.3 KWh per 1000 litre of product produced. This is a reduction of 3.82% in electricity usage. The average hairdryer uses 1500 Watts of electricity. By saving 1.8 KWh of electricity per 1000 litre of milk, which equals to (1.8 x 1000) 1800 kWh per day for producing 1 million litres of milk. But 1800 kWh is equal to 1.8 million watts, thus enough electricity to run (1.8 mil / 1500) 1200 hairdryers simultaneously.
Electricity usage is the biggest contributor to our footprint namely 68%. The use of heavy fuel oils (HFO) is the second biggest contributor at 23% and fuel for vehicles (diesel & petrol) contributes the balance of 8% of our carbon footprint. We are continuing to explore innovative ways to reduce electricity and heavy fuel impact.
